Matthew “Matt” Ellis takes the helm as Head Coach of the Hudson Havoc starting in 2025. Ellis joins the organization after eight successful seasons leading the Menomonie High School boys program, where he guided the Mustangs to the 2023 WIAA State Tournament—the team’s first state appearance in more than three decades. His tenure at Menomonie (2017–2025) is well-documented across Wisconsin Prep Hockey and Elite Prospects, and his move to Hudson marks the next step in a proven coaching career.
Ellis is recognized for his culture-first approach to coaching: setting high standards, demanding attention to detail, and building strong defensive foundations from the net out. He places a premium on goaltending and team defense while pushing his teams to play with pace. Along the way, he has worked with respected mentors, including Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Famer Terry Watkins, blending structure with player development to prepare athletes for higher levels of competition.
Rooted in western Wisconsin, Ellis is an active member of the Eau Claire and Menomonie communities. His strong regional ties and player-first communication style make him an effective recruiter, mentor, and leader.
